Dating to the 14th century BC, the Amarna Letters are clay tablets used by the pharoahs of Egypt to correspond with neighboring rulers. In one such letter, Abdi-Heba, the Canaanite ruler of Jerusalem, asks pharoah Akhenaten for military assistance. From the British Museum.
